Privacy policy

This website has no forms and no sign-ins. It counts visits, in a way that does not identify you and does not use cookies. We do not track you across other sites, and we do not sell personal information. What follows is the whole picture, including the third parties your browser talks to when you open a page.
Who we are
Maal is an independent studio based in Melbourne, Australia. For privacy questions, access requests, corrections or complaints, email hello@maal.au.
What this site collects
Nothing that identifies you is collected by us through this website. There is no enquiry form: the only way to contact us from here is the email address above, which opens your own mail program.
One small piece of data is stored by your browser, on your device: a note recording that you have seen the opening animation, so it does not replay on every visit. It stays in your browser, is not sent to us, and clearing your site data removes it.
How we count visits
We use Vercel Web Analytics, which is run by the same company that hosts the site. It records that a page was opened, which page it was, and roughly where in the world the request came from. It sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and builds no profile of you. There is no identifier that follows you from one visit to the next or from this site to any other, which is why you are not being asked to accept anything.
We look at it to find out whether the work on this site is read, and which parts. If you would rather not be counted, any content blocker that blocks /_vercel/insights will stop it, and the site works exactly the same without it.
What the hosting provider sees
This site is hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, its servers record requests — including your IP address, the page requested, and your browser's user agent — to deliver the site and keep it secure. That log is held under Vercel's own terms, and its servers may be outside Australia.
Links away from here
The footer links to our Instagram. Once you follow a link off this site, the other service's own privacy practices apply, not ours.
If you email us
When you write to us, we hold what you send — your name, your address, and whatever you tell us about your project — in the email and working systems we use to reply and to do the work. We take reasonable steps to protect it and limit access to the people who need it. No online system can be guaranteed completely secure.
How long we keep it
We keep correspondence for as long as it is reasonably useful for the relationship, our records, or our legal obligations, then delete it where practical.
Your choices
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete information we no longer need. Some requests may be limited where keeping information is required by law or reasonably necessary for our records.
Complaints
Email hello@maal.au with the subject “Privacy”. We will acknowledge it and respond after reviewing what happened. If you are not satisfied and the Privacy Act 1988 applies, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
Changes
We will update this page when our information-handling practices change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
